thats pretty much where you wanna be, you could go as low as 1500 with everything except 4 to 5, going into 5th at 2000 rpm drops you down to just above 1000 or so, which is the lowest you'd want to go as its bad for the main bearings to run at low rpm's while under load. this is for a 99+ gt with stock gearing.

Heh.. I liked cruisin in 3rd around town going 45, (liked the tone), besides that I never figured what kinda gas I was getting didn't really care though, friends liekd to ride with me so I normally had my gas paid for

that is where I used to shift... just give it enough rpms so that it doesn't lug when you engage the next gear...

I would definitely say the low to mid 2000 range for best mpg, but that really isnt what you should be concerned with if you want good gas mileage. The real question is which rpm do you spend most of your time at?
