is the engine free revving or sluggish?
If its free reving there is a very high possibility that the torque converter may be burned out
also more info type of transmission will be helpful.
I am assuming it is a c-6 correct me if i am wrong

The forward clutch is out. Read: tranny needs rebuilt.

The C6 kit is about $100, not including a torque converter which may or may not be necessary.
