Default calling the wire gods


Maybe some one can help!
here goes 88 mustang gt 5.0 new alternator with new pigtail for it
still doesnt seem to charge the battery as good second one still does the same.
are these just junk or is there an upgrade i can do for say a 90 or 130 amp alternator,
what would i nee to do? and what alt should i use,have 1,000 watt amp pumpin lots of juice,
and the alt can't keep up ,car has power everything.
this all happed before the amp and stereo was installed it's just worse now!
with everything off charges at 14.5 vlts turn anything on and it dropps to 8,9,10,
or less almost stalls, oh and this a new battery!
what gives ? anyone? i'am stummped!

The factory alt. is rated at 85amps, which is barely enough to charge todays electrical systems.
You can get a 130amp alternator through www.pa-performance.com and other places online.

Pa performance also make 170 & 200amp alternators which might be a good idea with that system you have in your car but the 130 should do the job though.

I would also say you need to check and clean all the battery post connections and also where the ground cable attaches to the engine block to make sure they are clean and tight connections. and if either cable looks cracked and corroded, replace them with new ones. your stereo system is drawing too many amps for the stock unit to supply the necessary current.

did all that all connections are clean and tight must be the amp drawing to much,
cause with nothing on it charges fine then you turn just the lights on and gauge drops
the more thats on the less the charge thanx for the info.
