Getting the drive belt to tighten up.
Well it's me again....I got a new drive belt for my 66, and I put it on, and it is just too lose.
I can pull it tight with the bolts loose, and I have 2 bolts on this bracket that connect to the alternator and the water pump of course.
so if I pull the alternator toward me then tighten the top bolt on it, then tighten the bottom bolt on the bracket that goes to it, the bolt won't line up on the water pump!
The only way I can get both bolts in, is if the belt is semi-tight, then the bolts fit.
The weird thing is, my old one was loose, but it was always tight before. Now I get the new one and it is the same deal.
What is the trick to get the belt tight and have my 2 bolts line up on the bracket? I heard something about a tool that is used, but I dunno it just seems like the belt can't get any tighter, because of the bolts. I know the belt is the right size because I compared it to the old one. Can anyone help me? thanks.
It just seems like I need an extra 1/2" on the bracket.
