Default will someone ease my mind

Got a 95 GT with AFR heads. Even before the heads were installed the car reached 220* before the cooling fan kicks on. Replaced the cooling fan switch, same thing. Is this the correct running temp? It generally runs around 200 but quickly gets up to about 217 at idle then the fan will come on. Am I ok? Thanks

I think the stock thermostat is 195*, so you might get one that opens sooner. Alum. heads will cause the car to run a little hotter, thye transfer heat faster. What about the fan temp sensor, too?

Got a 180 thermostat in it, and have replaced the the sensor. It has never overheated, I just dont want to warp those heads.

Nothing wrong with anything, just need to get a fan switch/sensor that kicks on at a lower temp. Sounds like your stocker is 220F get one that either adjustable or kicks on at a lower temp like 195F

Possibly the guage, warm it up and use acandy thermometer, (I hope that is spelled right) stick it in the radiator and see what it shows, AFR heads are 6061 T-6 aluminum and are heat treated, to the "T-6" ie heat treat, not much of a chance to warp them if torqued properly.
