Hi there! I am having a bit of an issue with my 86 convertable. It has teh v-6 3.8 engine. When idling, my oil pressure gauge reads low, but when my foot is on the gas, it is all the way up to high. My car leaks quite a bit of oil, and at first I thought it was the vaulve cover gaskets, but upon closer inspection, it appears to be coming from around the sending unit? I searched this forum for pics, and maybe a how to on changing the sending unit, if in fact this is actually the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

This is common on an older,,,,well used engine.The bearings wear and the oil has more places to get out from between the bearings.
The sending unit just screws out of the engine and a new one can be screwed in.I would try using some Hylomar sealer on the threads of the old one instead of buying a new part.Hylomar doesn't get hard or clog oil passages if some finds it's way into the oil galleries.

Thank you for the info! I will be doing a tuneup and some other stuff on it tomorrow. The car only has 68,000 miles on it. Would be great not to go through so much oil. It burns off the engine, and sometimes looks like I am on fire! Kind of embarrasing. Anyway, I will let ya know how the repair goes.
