Default Damn that sun!!!!!! Windshield

I have experience tinting windows, and I do it all the time for extra cash $$$$$$$$ ::greed::

Anyways, the seasons are changing and the sun is higher in the sky than usual around 4-5 PM and it gets pretty blinding. I'm not a fan of the visor because I'm a big guy and I sit high in my seat, the visor just takes away too much vision to feel comfortable with..

So I busted out my tools and tint; was ready to start my project when I realize...DURRRRRRR my rear-view mirror will be in the way. How can I go about removing it, and placing it back on the windshield without causing any damage?

I'm figuring a heat gun on the outside of the windshield and a friendly tug will work, along with super glue to reapply or some sort of clear glue?

They make glue for rear-view mirrors, you can get it at any parts store for a couple bucks. As for taking the mirror off, heati8ng it would be the only way I know how to get it off, and even then, I have seen someone pull off a chunk of glass from the windshield taking one off before (me haha). At any rate, you dont want to attatch the mirror to the tint, its a real bad idea (you can guess what will happen). Cutting around the mirror is the best way. If bottom of the mirror is more than 6 inches from the top (legally all you can go down on the front window with any tint is 6 inches), then you can cut out the slot for your mirror, then put a slit down to the edge of the tint so you can get it on. If done properly you can't even notice the slit. Hope that helps!

Thats the way to do it dan. The mirors will fall off by themselves in the summer heat sometimes. When you try to remove one you are almost garanteed to get a chunk of glass with it.

Done!

I cut two pieces, both to the center of the rear-view mirror attachment (to the windshield). I will take pics, but not right now. The baby shampooh/water solution I used leaves a cloudy mess for the first few days, so the tint has a really silver hue to it. I used 20% tint, and I'm starting to think I should of used 5%.

It's really sunny right now, so I guess now is the perfect time to take her out for a cruise and see how the tint helps!!

Next project = tinting all the windows on my buddies 69 Chevelle SS...
