Changing the Dif Gear

Changing the Dif Gear
I read the sticky at the top about gears. My car is a 95 GT 5 speed, I'm pretty sure with the 2.73 gear. I'm most likelygoing to go with the Ford Racing3.73 since my car is more or less an around town car. I might take it down a highway/interstate once every two weeks, if that. Here's the questions. Will the Ford Racing Ring and Pinion set have everything I need to do the swap properly? My dad was mentioning that some requirereplacing the carrier, but he's not sure.
Next, how do I make the speedometer have an accurate reading? Is there a gear that I have to replace or is this one that has to be re-calibrated?
Lastly, any ideas on what my ET will be after this? My car is 100% stock andI ran a 15.7 (cold damp night, I had traction issues).
Thanks in advance!

RE: Changing the Dif Gear
You shouldnt need a new carrier, just transfer the new ring gear to the old one. Pinion sets are usually just the gears. There are mounting kits that have everything else youll need. Some sets have axle bearings and seals as well.
Not sure about the speedo gear or a re-cal on the SN95.

RE: Changing the Dif Gear
My Ford racing 3.73 gearset came with the crush sleeve and pinion nut. To do the install you are going to need carrier and pinion shims, black rtv, 2-3 quarts of gear lube, one 4oz. bottle of friction modifier and a pinion seal. Optional items depending on wear include carrier bearings, pinion bearings and races, axle bearings and seals. The install itself isn't that hard if you have the right tools, just make sure to take your time and measure everything 3 times before final assembly.

RE: Changing the Dif Gear
you can buy the gears and install kit seprately or go to a dealer and tell them what you need and you can get a entire kit with everything you need. only thing left to buy would be fluids.
thats what i did but i got a discount sinced i worked there.
