Default brake light coming on.

Hey guys quick question for you. I have an 03 gt and my Brake light for the parking brake is coming on when i step on the brakes. Any ideas on what or why this could of happened it is happening after a year of ownership. I bought it new and have yet to have the brakes serviced. it has 16,000 on it. could it be there is a sensor for the pads after it wears to a certain point it lets you know that they will need replacing? any info would be great.

Low brake fluided. Just a guess. If thats so, it might be time to put new brake pads on.

I had the exact same problem... you most likely need new brakes, atleast on the front. Especially since you haven't had them serviced since getting the car. I'd check your brake fluid first, then check your brake pads.

If the brake fluild is low, check your brake pads before you put brake fluild in. Its a lot easyer that way.

you should not be needing new front brake pads after only 16,000 miles unless you drive super agressively and use the brakes real hard all the time. check the fluid level in the master cylinder reservoir first to see if it has dropped any and top it off if it needs fluid. if this doesn't appear to be the cause of the light coming on, then I would get the car to the dealer to have them check it out as it's still under warranty and it could be a bad pressure switch or some other internal problem that needs to be corrected. properly functioning brakes are very important to your safety so I would recommend you get this checked out ASAP.

I have heard a ton of people complaining about this. However no one has come to my dealership to have it checked out. Im gonna research this. I'll get back to ya. But i would d like everyone said, check fluid. I wouldnt bother checking youre pads, because they are no gonna be gone this soon... Unless you have a frozen caliper. That would suck. lol. So yeah. I'll get back to ya

If your brake fluid is low, it had to go somewhere. You would ether have a leak or your pad are gone. What else could it be if your brake fluid is low????

perhaps the line has a leaky ? if he is losing brake fluid?
or the caliper is jammed. maybe a pebblestone in there or a piece of salt?

I don't know about the newer models but on my '88 there is a pressure switch installed in the proportioning valve that senses the pressure from the master cylinder and if either side of the cylinder should be putting out lower than spec pressure the switch is activated to alert you that something is wrong in the master cylinder and you should get it checked. this valve also has a system that will provide brake pressure to one rear wheel brake and one front wheel brake in the event that one side of the master cylinder fails so you stilll have partial braking ability to stop the car.
