Default tranny issue

My friend Katie has a 1995 v6 convertible and she had this question:

"you know how to shift it into gear you press the button on the side and the brake so it’ll shift?? If I put it in reverse and I let the button go, it’ll still shift down to drive, like it doesn’t click or lock in place if it’s in neutral or reverse, but once it’s in drive it locks. Is that bad?"

Anyone have any input. I drive a stick so i have no clue.

safety feature so it wont come out of drive while you drive down road. it prevents slippage from forward to reverse or neutral. the reason it easily goes from reverse to drive is because speeds are lower than that of drive. simply a safety issue.

most of the time you only need to do both the button and the brake to get it out of park, once it's out of park, you can shift it without using the brake I believe. you do need to button pushed in to go into reverse from neutral, that I do know is correct.
