Default Mustang Questions

Hello, I'm about to buy my first mustang, and i'm fairly knowledgable. I cant seem to figure out which engine, the 2004 mustang gt's came with. I understand its a 4.6, but not sure which one. Also, does it have the 260 hp? Another mustang i'm considering is a 1994, mustang, with a procharger, these cars came factory around 220 hp, right? I'm just trying to decide between the two cars. They both have about 20k miles, and the 04 is 16k$ the 94 is 14k$. I'm thinking the 94 would be a bit faster but i'm not sure by how much and if its actually worth 14k. Any help with my first mustang would be greatly appreciated.

*edit* I also found an 01 "bullitt gt" just curious what kind of hp and engine these stangs have. It has 88k milesand asking 13k$.I'm eventually going to do upgrades no matter which one I choose, but I want a good baseline to start with. thanks again *edit*

Welcome to MF

You should be able to tell which car is the keeper just by driving them both. The blown stang should be way faster than the '04, although you might want to check it over very well. A blown car could have led a hard life depending on who owned it before you did

Thanks for the welcome, Im looking forward to being a part of the mustang community...finally...

And driving and inspecting them will be quite a problem, I'm actually stationed in japan, so my father will be doing all of the looking and driving for me but he is very knowledgable about cars so that shouldnt be a problem. I'm still curious if anyone has some information about the specific engines and hp ratings for these mustangs.

Yes the 04 does have the 260hp engine. I dont think you gave to worry about the blown car having a hard life if its a 94 with only around 20K miles the owner obviousley was taking care of it. And yes the 94 would be faster. The buillitts were rated at around 265hp. Basicly the same engine with a few changes

I think i've decided for an 04 gt, 5spd. Any one have some information about how these engines hold up to forced induction? And how about the transmissions and rearends. Just curious what my future options are without replacing everything. If I end up getting an 04 gt, i'll probably procharge it, any numbers on how these run? should be about 360 hp, right? thanks in advance.

The Bullitt Mustang is a specialty mustang, modeled after the 67 GT that Steve McQueen drove in the movie Bullitt. It might be my choice here, if you're not going to do anything that is permanent to the car - it is a fairly rare car, and as such, will retain more of its value over the years, if taken care of properly.

Oh, and you'd want to get a green one, since that's the color of the original movie car
