Default starting in 2nd?

I got the mustang (details in my sig) about a week ago. firstvehicle i owned with a stick, im 17. I find that its much easier to take off in 2nd gear with this car then 1st for some reason. Is this bad for it? i feel like i put more stress on the clutch when im starting in first then 2nd, but that may be due to my novice ability. i know that from years of racing motorcycles starting in 2nd gear on them has virtually no affect on the lifespan of the clutch. I think it would be the same for a car?

I don't know the answer to your question but I only start from 2nd when going downhill. Your lucky to own a car that new at 17.

Well, I heard that starting in 2nd can shorten clutch life...but don't take it from me. I never learned how to drive stick yet (I should say..."have experience").

What rear gears do you have? If they are really low, like 4.10's, I could see starting off in 2nd as an OK thing to do. Personally I only "start" in 2nd if I'm not completely stopped.. like if I come to a stop sign & just slow to a rollingcrawl then I'll take of in 2nd

I'm not sure what the stock gears are, im the 2nd owner. I think they might be lower then stock because 1st gear seems waaay short. I'll look into that
and before i start getting bashed for driving a nice car at my age ill tell the story. I race semi pro motocross for a paid contigency team. In 06 as a 16 y.o I made just shy of $60,000 from that gig. So far im on track to beat that by a good bit in 07. I went to tech school my sophmore and jr year for marine mechanics. When i finished and got ceritfied in Feb. 07 i opened a boat service. Now my company is hired by two marinas to do all the maintenance and light repair work on their boats. I've got two full time employees, one for each marina. When all is said and done i profit about a $2000 a week from that. If you've had a company clean your boat bottom you know that is an easily doable number. Also Im emancipated, dont live at home, and got my GED this summer.
