Default T-5 problem

Hey everyone, I have a 1990 GT with a T-5 tranny it doesnt want to go into 2nd and grinds a little going into 3rd It has the original self adjuster clutch cable mechanism and what I beleive to be an aftermarket hurst short throw shifter.I need to know if my problem is most likely caused by the clutch mechanism or if it could be a shifter problem or if it would be the synchronizers in the tranny. I dont want to go through the trouble to pull the tranny if it is something wrong thats not in the tranny. thanks for all the help ahead of time. Barry

Sounds like a bad synchronizer problem.. which would mean the tranny needs to be removed & opened up [:@]

If you can put it into 1st gear no problem then your clutch is fine. I'm not sure if a badly adjusted shifter could do the type of problems you're describing,,,

if it doesnt grind in every gear then its not your linkage. sounds like bad syncros. as greystang stated earlier, your tranny will have to be removed and opened up.
