Default Roller rocker arms

I was wondering if your engine would suffer from any adverse effects or damage if you were to use roller rocker arms without having a whole roller valvetrain such as cam and lifters?

Roller rockers only need themselves, screw in studs, guideplates, and hardened push rods. You do not need a roller cam, that's completely different.

Also, make sure you don't have any rotation caps on your valve stems. The roller rocker tip will crush 'em.

Thank you. A friend and I were "discusing" the issue. He is a much more knowledgeable gearhead than I am, but I didn't see why a roller rocker arm would be harmful. It is still just a pushrod tapping the end of it.
