Default some problems

I have a 87 lx 2.3. When I start it up and drive it the car shakes somewhat violently. It also has NO power, not that the 2.3 had much to begin with but now it really struggles to move. Supposedly the motor was rebuilt and has less than 30k on it and the a4ld was somewhat new and had like 15k on it.

I know from my Bronco II experience that the a4ld is a problematic trans at least in that application. I would figure it carries over to other models too.

Any ideas on whats wrong?

I am looking to swap out the 4cyl for a 5.0 once I can get some money together but if this fix is somewhat easy and not an internal motor or trans problem I can do that in my driveway.

Thanks
