It was a transmission used in Rangers and F- series trucks from 1982-1984.
It isn't much of a performance transmission.

The C5 was used in many small ford products from the late 70's early 80's behind low powered engines usually the inline and V6. My '82 fairmont 200 six had the C5 the 3.8 mustangs until '86 used the C5. It was simply a 3spd auto for low powered fords. The C4 was a much better tranny.

C 5 suck get a C-4 .....C5 got lock up conveter very big and heavy too..

aamilo, I hate to say this but what you just said is NOT TRUE at all..I'm sorry.
The C-5 was NEVER in a mustang........ever...or goes back to the '70's
I'll correct myself though...the C-5 was offered between '81-86
The hydraulics are different between the C-4 and C-5 and the C-5 has a lock-up torque converter.
