Default Tranny Chatter, What could it be??

Hey Guys,
Had some chatter recently, coming from what appears to be the transmission. It's usually at the the peak of the Torque, or at the top of the shift. The sound, kinda resembles a Clutch Pressure Plate going out..

I have the AOD-E, in a 2000 GT. I've done all recommended maintenance, and even gone as far as adding Lucas, and to no avail.

Could this be Torque Converter? Or Bands/Clutchpacks in my tranny on their way out? I have noticed the tranny doesn't shift as smooth, and my it is slipping a little in upper gears, maybe even in low gears.

Any help is appreciated!!

I would get a scanner on it to check the codes the eec can pick trans. code on the AOD-E.and then go from there.

is your car a stick? do you have a SPEC clutch in it? the chatter you are hearing is most likely the TOB

well considering he said it was an aod tranny and has a torque converter i would bet me pennies it would be an auto.

I was actually wondering what the EEC would gather from chatter?? Maybe I'm being ignorant.

I can tell there is a little slipping. I may just go the route, and systematically change out the Torque converter and ultimately the tranny. I mean hell, the car, even as a 2000, already has 120,000 Miles on it. Engine runs great though, like it was just broken in.

Now since I'm not very knowledgeable about trannies and their internals and other working, would a larger diameter torque converter be better in terms of holding power and capacity? What are the average life expectancy of a regular torque converter, being used mildly?? I know there are a lot of factors in this, but I figure just like a clutch, it's the weak link in the drivetrain.

Thanks for the info so far though!!

Does it sound like the noise the predator makes? (from the movie)

If so its your drive shaft U joints going out. 20 dollar fix.

Well, I don't know if I could compare it to the sound the Predator makes, to me that almost sounds like a purring of a large cat, or something like that... But like I said before, it resembles the sound of a Pressure plate/clutch disc going out, or even better yet, as if you had a fan that was metal, and took a piece of something in it, but the fan didn't decrease in velocity.. Like a baseball card in bicycle spokes...

Either way, I'm actually starting to notice a little bit of rumble, or vibration on deceleration, but that could be related to my rear diff needing to be reshimmed....

Any ideas??

go to www.lentechautomatics.com and check out some of their technical info about the AODE trans and maybe this will help you figure out what to do with yours. as far as torque converters go, the high performance, higher stall one are smaller in diameter than the stock ones.
