Default carb problems!

hey guys...
i have a 76 5.0 mustang 2 that im trying to get up and running b4 winter and am having problems with i think the carb. when i turn the key the engine cranks but doesnt turn over. when i dump a lil gas in the carb, it starts up like a champ but dies after a lil while... i got a rebuild kit, changed the excelerator pump and i put in a new fuel pump so i know gas is def getting to the front chamber of the carb (where the floats are) i think i set the floats right, and blew out the jets so i dont think nething is clogged... idont know 2 much about carbs so any help will be appreciated...

thnx

What carb is it? If it starts when you pour gas into the carb, but won't stay running, or won't start on just the carb, then you still have a carb problem

Check the filter. After it dies, look in the carb and move the throttle and see if gas is squirting into from the acc pump.

Did you change the filter? I'm assuming you did when you changed the pump, correct?

Do what Gary said, look in the barrel and open the throttle and see if any fuel is spraying from the pump

Well, if it starts if you pour fuel in it, but dies out, and there's no fuel from the accelerator pump, then either your floats are set wrong, or something else is keeping you from getting fuel through the carb/accelerator pump

Sounds like the carb just needs cleaned out. Is there fuel in the bowl (take the top off to look...and the Ford carb can run without the top, just make sure the needle/seat have the splash guard installed).
