Default question about tuning

im holding off on getting my car tuned till i get my 410s and my stage 2 cam installed but do you think getting it dynotuned is taht much better then a handheld tuner? and is the difference worth the price or am i better off just getting a diablo or something? thanks.

I am interested in this question as well. Please consider sharing the cost of your dyno tune, if it has been recent.

if you have a lot of mods a dyno tune is much better. depending on where you go, the dyno tune will be cheaper too. near my house its $150 for a dyno tune

I would *think* (not having any mods as of yet and considering the same thing) that a Dyno would be better. At the dyno shop they can make adjustments based on their experience and your driving habits. The handheld tuners generally go through yes/no-multiple choice type setups which I would think would limit you in some cases either due to lack of knowledge on the programmers part or somthing skipped in the setup questions.

The offset is that Dyno tuning can be more expensive and if you want to change your programming, you have to go back. I would consider get the first tune up done at a Dyno shop then using that as a reference to 'tinker' with your own setups. Just a thought.[:-]

When you take a car to a dyno, it will give you an idea of how close your current(stock) tune to ideal. All a dyno does is MEASURE your tune. To CHANGE your tune, you will need a new chip, a handheld tuner, or a MAF tuner. -Take your pick. The best way to go these days is to get a hand held tuner, install it, THEN bring your car to the dyno. Do a baseline run stock, see where the changes need to be made in the fuel curve. Then use the hand held tuner to change what needs changing. -Then re-dyno the car and continue to make fine tuning changes until it is perfect. By itself, all a dyno can do for you is measure your air/fuel ratio, not change it. You need to have a way to change it, and the best way these days is to get a hand held tuner of your choice.

An 04gt has one stock, most new cars if not all have them. May be called something different based on manufaturer though.
