if you want just start out when you leave the lot. there's no mileage requirement for synth.

Lotsa high end cars (Corvette for one) come from the factory with Mobil 1. I suppose it's possible that some engines still need break-in time and special dino oil, but I have no idea who that might be. Today's engines have such close tolerances that break-in periods aren't necessary. Check out bobistheoilguy.com

Depends on who makes the engine, but the owner's manual will always have the answer for your particular car.

I know that the 4.6L in my '03 GT and the 2.5L in my '99 Contour came from the factory already broken in and ready for whatever oil I wanted to use.

For actual new engines, I generally switch after 3000 miles, which includes oil changes at 500 and 1500 miles.

I stroked out my windsor and put regular rotilla 10-30 in it for the break in. Figured why waste the 60 bucks when I am going to change the oil fairly regularly in the early miles of the engine.

Never use synthetic in a new engine. Synthetic is so good it will not allow the internal components to properly seat.

Seems to be a lot of different opinions. I went to Mobil 1's web site and they said can be used on a new engine. I'm at 500 miles, so I changed it. Did anybody notice
on their first oil change how the oil looked green. It was weird, figured it was some assemble lube or something.

here's Mobil 1's info on new engines and myths
