Fuel Pump HELP!!
My tough-as-nails 95 302 just received her 100k tune up. I threw in a new powersteering pump, water pump, alternator, and cleaned everything up nice. I've never had a problem with electical connections or the fuel pump.
A week ago I was driving on the highway and the engine quit, but restarted quickly. My fuel filter was new as of this summer, so I was hoping it wasn't something major. Well it turns out she plain died as I was driving to lunch on campus. I pulled out my multi-meter and went to work. All fuses great, the rear end harness was getting power, the pump kill switch was depressed - nothing seemed to be wrong. So I decided to pull the pump out and replace it. After doing that in the school parking lot this afternoon, the pump is still not pressurizing when I turn the key to "on". I rememberd that your pump only gets 4 seconds of juice when the key is in the on position, so I had a friend turn it while I was ready - no voltage at all.
What's wierd is that the fuel level sending unit is getting power but the fuel pump is not (there are 4 prongs on the connector that goes to both). So the problem is with the fuel pump power only, I believe.
I have no clue where to start, someone wiser than me, please help!
(PS. Don't go buying a new fuel pump before checking wiring thoroughly, what a waste of 100 bucks!)
Cheers

Did you check your relay for the pump? I had a simmilar problem on my 86 GT while driving down the road and it quit. Checked everything, wiring, relays (except for the EEC) and the inertia switch. I replaced the fuel pump relay and still didn't fix it, come to find out it was the EEC relay for the computer. It may sound like its working but it might not. Went to the dealer and bought a new one and she fired right up and been running ever since. Oh and another thing, check to see if you got spark, the way i knew it was the EEC relay is because i didn't have spark either alongwith nothing for a fuel pump. Good luck, hope it's something as simple as a relay!
