Automatic might be better for dragging though, cuz a computer can sure shift cleaner / easier / faster than I can (and that goes for *most* people) which probably makes up for the loss in HP.
No reason to argue about it, to each his own, and I respect both ways of driving.

Every car/truck I own has a stick. I don't care what's faster, I like stick. My friend has a Yukon auto and I have a slightly modded Sierra stick which we're going to bring to the truck nationals this year. I may get beat and it might even be because I shifted bad, I don't care. Day to day I like to drive a manual.
Like people are saying, there's always the variable D, the driver. It matters less in an automatic, but more with the manual, so you cant really compare the CAR that way. What you are really doing is comparing how ONE person can drive the two different versions of one car, not the cars themselves. You can't state that as a fact about transmissions in general.
I'd like to see how many people prefer auto only because they can't drive a standard.

I made my wife buy a stick shift Jetta so she would learn, you only ever learn if you own one. That and 2 out of the 4 cars I own are stick so this way if she needs to get somplace there is always a car that she can drive.

I think that if you took the average joe and told him to drive the same two cars one auto one manual in the 1/4 this joe guy would do better in the auto...IMO

My input.... If automatic is faster than stick then why doesn't NASCAR use automatic, or professional dragsters use it, rally racing, or any pro racing division use it? These guys spend millions on making their cars faster don't you think they have researched this?
