Do I Go For SCCA Racing
I am really intreasted in doing autox, how do i find out about it and where they hold races in my area that i can be in? Any info on this would be great, BTW i am in south west florida, Thanks
I went to the SCCA meet on Sunday. I didn't compete because I didn't really know what I was getting into. It was interesting to watch though.
The cars that did really awesome to watch were the Miatas, MR2s, and s2Ks. There were two 'stangs there and they didn't do really well. I don't know why but it's just what I saw -- maybe they were in the novice class. These cars were the newer models - '98 (maybe and up)
The person who invited me was a total jerk. He expected me to race against him but never bothered to tell me about the procedures to be followed, how to read the track or even give me a ride to see what it was like. I was so angry when I left.
I even went to the website for SCCA to get the rules but didn't get anything but a box with a red "X".
If someone is interested in doing this, who do you go to for help at the track? Is there a representative you should talk to or just ask any of the drivers?

Wow I cant believe that person wold invite you and not help. So ill go through the normal routine for a day for me.
I like to get there half a hour before anyone else. Time for me to relax. Around 8:30 which is 30 minutes till start i will walk the track atleast twice. Keeping in mind im pretending where I am at in the car. It really helps to walk at a moderate pace. Dont over think what you will be doing. While you are walking the track the cones are set in a way it is pretty self explantaory. If not follow behind someone else that is walking. Third after done walking I go and get my tech assinment. Areas differ from the jobs. I would suggest being a corner person to kinda get the feel for whats going on. After that I make sure im signed up.
You have to remember these people are ordinary joes. Its gonna be hard to tell whos thereto help you and whos not. Sometimes you just have to ask.
As for cars being faster then others, thats why cars are classed differnt. You will never keep up with a mr2 unless there are long straights. Mustangs cant turn a corner like a 2000 pound car. Where I am the times are ususally SS(vettes mostly), SM (souped up cars that dont really follow many of the other rules, ESP(mustangs and camaros) STX/u (STIs and such)
Car classes here and rule link Sorry

Now that I have cooled off a bit, I have decided maybe I will show this guy a thing or two and go for it after all. I would really to beat him at his own game.
I would like to go again but want to have someone there who will show me the ropes and explain to me about the cones. This is going to sound lame, but I didn't understand the positioning of the cones. Trying to comprehend everything from keeping the engine cool, to tire pressure and tire temperatures, etc. is too much to learn for me in one afternoon by myself considering this is all greek to me.
I hope any of my questions help others.
