Default Shifting without clutch!!??

well i have heard people telling me they sometimes will shift their trucks without the clutch.. this is done with the foot off of the gas, and as long as ur rpms are steady, and your not accelerating/slowing down it will slide right in. ??? what do you guys think. I'm not going to do this but just thought id start a little conversation and see what you think.

Yeah. You have to wait till the engine speed and tranny speed are exactly the same and the synchros are aligned and it will slip right in without the clutch. I wouldnt do it for racing though.

Ive done it before just to mess around. I dont have any practical use for doing it. Say, your in 3rd gear and going 30mph at 3000rpms. So if your in neutral, rolling along at 30mph, you can rev up to 3000rpms and hold it there and then just slip it into 3rd gear with out clutching.

You can put the car into neutral at any time without the clutch...
Shifting through any gear without using the clutch can cause GEAR damage...
Gears are almost never damaged in a transmission and can last beyond the life of a car if the clutch is used properly..

If we didint need the clutch, it wouldent be in the car..
This is what automatic trannys are for..
