Word. I had a 90 lx 5.0 that you could slide it out of gear, never tried to shift into a gear.

when my clutch cable went, the whole drive home was without the clutch. what you do is put it to the floor and when at WOT jam into gear (worked for me, and thought its how its done)

also big trucks do it because they do not have sincros in the trans their is to much weight and power it would just bust the teeth off them, in your t-5 you do thats why you cant.

I did it all the time in a big rig, but not in a car. Taking it out is fine, but putting in gear is not. I had a 3 speed I was throwing away and I did it with it. In a big rig you shift about 1800rpms and put it in about 1500rpms.

1. drive you to 1800rpms
2. let off the gas and at the same time, pull it softly out of gear.
3. Let you motor rpms go down to 1500rpms and push it into the next gear up.
4. when it is in gear, gas on it.

This will not work for a car.

You can shift up easily without the clutch, to downshift you steadily apply throttle to get the rpm's up until the shifter slips out of gear and then you shift.

i havent and wont try it in my mustang unless i have to. i have shifted without a clutch before in an old 77 toyota pickup. clutch went out on me and i had to get it back home. when it was time to shift i would pull it out of gear and gently push it toward the next gear.i could feel the vibration and when i knew it was the right time i shoved it into gear. no grinding, no weird noises or nothing. only problem was when i had to stop. if i could just slow down it wasnt a problem. if i had to completly stop, i would have to kill the engine, put it in first and start it while in gear while flooring it. alot of jerking but it took off. that was an advantage of not having a clutch safety switch. i drove a little over 200 miles like that. never had a tranny proble the whole time i owned the truck.
