Default please look and help!!!

hey sorry for the repost but i am still nto gettin a good answer..i put the correct new drivebelt on my 85 gt from autozone cause my other one was worn..anyways it wont tension up...i dont know hwat to do to tension it..i let it run for a few mintutes but the belt wont turn the pullies casue there is not enough tension....can some one please tell me what i need to do to get it back to normal...thanks

Did you compare it length wise to the old one, If so and it's correct, it must be routed wrong. Is it the ho motor or cfi?

EDIT, N/M they are the same. Here's a diagram

ok i have it routed correctly..but what is that pert about how to frix or tighten the tensioner..can u describe that ot me alittle more...? thanks alot

Are you sure you have the right length belt?
There is nothing to tighten - the tensioner is spring loaded.
Try getting a belt that's 1/2 shorter.

no dude...when i went to put the new belt on i loosened the alt liek i did on ym iroc..and i slid the oldie off and the new one on...then tightedned the alt abck up...its still too loose..but ill try running back to the store to see if i can get one a 1/2 shorter..

Why would you loosen the alt instead of releasing the tension on the tensioner?

i couldnt get the tensioner to loosen the alt loosened up immediately..that how i replaced the belts on my iroc camaro....idk should i put the old belt on and see? ill compare them tomorrow to see if theya re the same...but how do i get the tenisioner loose i tried the bolt in the abck i swear its stuck..liek weleded..lol i ocudnt get ti to budge..

the tensioner turns, and has a spring inside to keep the tension on the belt, did you put the belt underneath the tensioner pully, it sounds like you have the belt above it

The bolt that actually is in the center of the pulley is the one you put the wrench on. 18mm (I think) . Push/pull in a counter clockwise direction to release the tension.
