when getting gears and a new posi rear diff, do i also have to buy the installation kit or does the mechanic not need it necessarily?

also, assuming i got ford racing gears, if i got a non-ford diff. (like auburn or something) would I get the installation kit for "ford" gears, or one for auburn diff.

I would get the full rear rebuild kit with all new bearings for the differential and the axles too. No sense installing new gears with used bearings. get the kit for the 8.8 Ford rear no matter what differential you get as they all have to fit the Ford housing so the bearings used are the same no matter who makes the diff.

 

i have a 7.5" though

 

so buy the kit for the 7.5 rear end, not the 8.8. make sure all the parts are for the 7.5 rear end and you will be OK.
