Default K&N Options

Greetings, I'm planning on installing the k&n filter system on my 01 gt. I heard that the polished intake plenum doesn't work as well as the simple black plastic tube. Is this true? I like the look of the polished pipe but if it is a dramatic difference in performance I would rather show everyone my shiny tail pipes wink wink nudge nudge. thanks yo

the aluminum absorbs heat and supposedly heats up the incoming intake charge. just get a K&N filter and remove the air silencer. don't buy a "cold air intake" a lot of times they just draw hot engine compartment air into the engine.

I have the K&N and I have no problems with it at all.

Check with K&N for exactly what type of system this cold air intake is. Some will use a heat shield and some rubber moulding to section off the filter from the engine. Otherwise, if its just the tube and a filter, just buy a cone filter and fabricate your own heat shield. One other benefits of the K&N though is that the tube is a lot smoother on the inside than the ribbed duct that's on your car now. Those ribs distort the airflow, and could cause a minimal performance loss. Kinda like 6 in one, half dozen in the other.

Just get the FIPK kit. Its a little expensive... I think I paid 210 for it. But i'm happy with it.
