odometer
after reading some posts in other threads about odometer readings, and some people saying their 15-20+ year old cars have ridiculously low miles like under 75k i wonder. not calling anyone out on it, but i am wondering when exactly did ford start putting in a 100K+ odometer? my 93 5.0 lx reads 12???.? it rolls back over after 99999.9. i have neverseen a fox era mustang with a stock 100k+ odometer. howeveri knew a girl years ago with a 94 that had the 100000 odometer. what year was the first? anyone know?
yeah mine was built 4/93. i had a 93 z28 camaro years ago that was built 9/92 with the 100k odometer. i know gm started doing it quite a few years before ford did. i've seen an 87 chevy with the 100k+ odometer. i'm pretty sure the japanese were doing it way back in the late 70s/early 80s.
when i bought my 93 in 2000 it was 7 years old. the odometer read 27963 or something. at first i was sure it had 127k, but it didn't have the extra digit. i didn't know if it would have it or not before i looked at it. i had friends with 90s, and one with a 91 that had just the roll over odometer. i checked the wear spots when i got in. the steering wheel, the pedals weren't worn at all, and the wheel looked like it could very well be one in a car with under 30k miles. i later on got a carfax, and it did indeed have only 27k. after i had already purchased it, and was stuck with it, i opened it up, and inspected the heads, and the valves. totally silver, and no discolorment or a spot of gunk on them.
carfax...nuf said it shows EVERYTHING
i know 2 guys.....one has a '90 GT and 42k miles original (2nd owner)
the other is a '92 lx w/ 36k miles on it (original owner)
true low miles cars are worth a bundle......almost original sticker price actually

yup carfax even showed me what was replaced but really wasn't when the car was hit. it wasn't there fault though it was the goodyear place they brought it to get serviced. when it was hit it needed a new radiator. it said they had replaced it. i first noticed a year later the stock radiator was still in there. there was a nickel sized patch in it on the corner closest to the drivers side. see the grill wasn't hit one bit just the drivers side fender slightly, and the headlights, and obviously the hole in the radiator. welp at about 68k miles it blew out, and leaked all the coolant out on me. i was only a mile from home luckily. they also replaced tie rod ends, and ball joints too[they love replacing front end stuff at these goodyear places huh? even though none of it is ever replaced anyway except for maybe one out of the three things you 'needed' done]. i broke the original outter tie rod end at about 48k miles while getting some air, and hitting a crater sized pothole slightly. the original control arms, and ball joints in the front are still on the car to this day. only thing they ever really changed were the tires, and one serpentine belt.
