oil won't drain?!
Ok i got a couple questions regarding oil on my mustang.
1) I went to do my oil change yesterday, so i jacked up the front end and pulled the plug. As usual i got hot oil all over my hands. i went and got a rag for my hands and than came back to check on the oil: it wasn't draining. i figured it was because i had the car jacked up so i lowered it. still no oil. whats the problem here?
2) how much oil can a 5.0's stock oil pan hold? i put in 4 quarts and the dipstick show its overfilled.
3) finally sometimes at idle my oil pressure drops down on the gauge. i know that the stock gauges suck but it shows a pretty big drop. it goes right back up when i hit the go pedal. its fine while cruising. is this normal?
thanks

Ummmm did you remove both plugs (I think the 5.0s of this year have a dual sump pan)? The front side of the sump only holds like a quart the back half holds the rest. I did the same thing with my Marque did the front plug and only a 1/2 quart came out. I thought to myself it had oil last week then I remember 5.0s have two plugs....Hey theres the rest of the oil[8D]!
Oh and oil pressure will fluctate with engine RPM. It is not uncommon to see it drop alot when at idle as opposed to driving.
Don't drive with the sump overfilled, you can do some damage if you leave it like that.

that's OK fordguy17, you weren't born knowing how to work on your car! suggest you buy a good quality repair manual on Mustangs and read up on things before you attempt to do any more maintenance on yours so you don't really do some damage next time!
my first car was a 1981 tbird 302..i changed the oil one day and was wandering why after 5 qt of oil the stick showed nothing...about that time i stepped in 5 qt of oil on the ground...my retard *** forgot to put the plug back in the pan
Hey guys, don't want to start an argument but Oil pressure dopping at idle is not "normal". It certainly could be a bad gauge or a number of other problems however it is usually a sign of berring wear. I wouldn't get excited about it because any engine with miles on it will have some wear and tear which is why all of us have owned cars with droping oil pressure. However oil pressure is determined after oil passes the berrings and thus worn berrings will pass more oil, thus show low pressure. However as rpm's go up the pump will work faster pressure is returned to nomal. You can try oil additives and a heavier gauge oil (depending where you live) but you should keep an eye open to make sure the pressure keeps returning to normal, and save up for the rebuild.
