Just bought a 96 GT convertible and am new to the forum and have posted a few questions and will probably come up with more. I was researching the motor codes in the VIN # for 1996 and on the GT's the most comon was a W which is the 215 HP 4.6L. Mine actually has an X for the code and that doesn't show up until 99 with the 260 HP 4.6. So would it be possible that this car was ordered with a 260 HP 4.6? Was it even an option in '96.

 

sounds like a vin. mistake on your car. maybe but your info is most likely whats wrong. dont think you could get any options on your GT as far as motor unless you moved up to the Cobra
