suspension problem
After 8 years and 83K miles, my car has recently started to feel really unsecure. Like when switching lanes really quickly to bypass some traffic it seems to want to keep going to the right or left instead of just changing one lane and staying there like it used to and it doesnt seem to corner like it used to when i first put on the bilsteen shocks/struts. Also, when i make a right or left turn from a dead stop it sometimes makes the front end hop under medium acceleration and it feels like its about to slide to the right or left depending on the direction of the turn but it doesnt. Anybody know how to fix any of this?
Sloppy front end could be due to a lot of things. From worn or rotted control arm bushings, to tie-rod ends at the end of their life. Ball joints are another good one.
Do you have state inspection in your state? I would jack up the front end and give everything a good inspection. See if their's play in the steering, or wheels. Check the bearings, joints, do a good visual inspection of everything too. Have someone turn the steering wheel, and see how long it takes for the wheels to react. Make sure they react at the same time.
I always take quick action if my steering feels unsafe. I've seen what happens when a tie-rod fails while you're driving along.
Infact, here's the one on my stepfathers 96 Dakota. He was going about 20 mph when it happened. I STILL managed to drive the truck home 3 miles somehow, ha.
