i have 289 with 302 heads. i was talking to some people on the forum and they said my 650 holly is way to big of a carb for my motor. if it is what do u recomend?

A nice carburetor that would work well on that engine would be something like a 525cfm Demon. Or a stock Autolite.

The 650 can be made to work if you are good at tuning a carb. A stock 289, however, doesn't need much more than 500 cfm. And a 500cfm 4V will provide a lot better throttle response and efficiency than most 2V's.

It does sound a bit big but here are a few things to consider.

Any performance moves will want a larger carb. Higher rpm, bigger camshaft, slippery torque convertor, lower gears, lighter car.

Dual plane intake wants more cfm than a single plane.

I think a 570 or even a 600 would suffice, however the 570 would be better. My77 has one for sale I believe.
