Default a NewB in need- 5.0 engine tech

Mkay, so I just made a profile on this site cause I enjoy reading your guy's tech talks. Here is my dilemma: I have a 1995 mustang 3.8 convertible but I'm looking to sell it for a 94 or 95 mustang gt 5.0, I;ve looked into some crate engines but haven't found what I'm looking for, so i'm wondering, do you people know of any setup I could do to get a 300 hp (roughly)car and still get a good 17 to 22 MPG? I'm not to much of a grease monkey but know a little, I'm up 4 anything, engine upgrades or external, like dual exhausts and superchargers. Thanks.

First of all welcome to the forums this place is full of great info. Crate engines are a waste of money basicly they are selling you the same engine you have in your car plus a set of heads for 5K. And 300hp at the wheelsis cake on a 5.0. The easiest waysare to piece together a H/C/I swap and some companies like trick flowhave top end kits already pieced together and ready to go. Option 2 is a supercharger. Pretty much any blower with about 8-9 pounds of boost will put you at the 300 mark. The best advice i can give you is to start browsing the forums andstart doinglots andlots of research

Thanks alot, by the way, sweet looking mustang! Anyways, onmy 3.8 V6 I was told the engine would need internal upgrades to be able to handle a supercharger without blowing itselfall to hell. Can the 5.0 readilyhandle a Supercharger? P.S. who sells a fair priced supercharger worth owning?

Yeah it will take it no problem if you dont go crazy with the boost. At the very worst it might blow out the head gaskets if you run more than 10psi. Youll see that one of the biggest joys of owning a 5.0 is the parts, there everyhwhere and their cheap. If your willing to buy used you can usually pick up a decent vortech / paxton for $1200-$1500. Really the only supercharger you want to stay away from are the powerdyne's
