a/c issues
My a/c suddenly quit last spring and I figured it was probably the compressor, or cluch... it was showing adequate pressure... I blew it off until now. So I'm looking into it this weekend and the clutch wasn't even engaging, so I tried the suggestions on here to jumper the wires on the pressure switch and sure enough, the clutch kicks in with the jumper wire. I checked the pressure, it was about 17-20... so I threw on a new switch and put in a can of r134.. the clutch slowly started to cycle on and off, but it never stayed on.. the pressure was around 35 now. then when i disconnected the hose coupler, the port was releasing a small amount of r134, but it stopped when I put the cap on.. now i let the car idle for 10-15 mins, but the cluch never stayed on, it just continued to cycle. I took the cap off to connect the gauge and its releasing a lot of gas (or air?) now and the cap doesn't even shut it off all the way, but the hose coupler does.. and thats what's on it right now...
maybe the port is damaged? it's releasing right out of it, and it doesn't seem to be leaking anywhere else... oh and the pressure is back around 22-25 now.. I assume I'd have to evacuate the system to replace the port, but I can't do that until tomorrow so, any advice out there?

RE: a/c issues
I would need to see how the high side pressure is reacting. On a normal warm 80+ degree day on a healthy system you should be up to atleast 40 PSI on the low side. without seeing the high side I can't really tell you much. What kind of service port is it? does it have a removable core or does the entire fitting come off. Either way if you replace it you need an Evac. usualy what you can do is take a pick and "pop" the center of the port and get it to re seal itself (wear safety gogels)
