Default Air bad light?

My air bag light is on. What could cause this? Is there a way to reset the computer for this or is it a fuse?

a shop can scan the system for a code to see whats wrong. If it just poped up for no reason there could be a fault somewhere thats intermitent. If you unhook the battery and reset the computer it might go away but probably not. Unless work has been done on the car recently and an air bag inpact sensor was unpluged or damadged my bet is going to be a faulty clock spring.

It's very possible. Personaly I would search for the inpact sensors in the front and make sure none are broken or unpluged. Along with that and making sure no wires were cut, unpluged or pinched would be where I would start.. Just please please please use caution when dealing with the air bag. if you find something, unhook the battery before you mess with it. If you have ever seen one deploy you would understand. I have had to set a few off before cars can be junked. It's scary how much power they pack.

If all else fails have a shop scan for codes and see what it comes up with.

to be honest I am unsure... A fellow mustang guy can help. But usualy they are labled on the under hood stickers and are usualy located around the front clip near the radiator

There is also an air bag module above the center console under the dash. I had to replace this on my 95 after mistakenly grounding one of the wires running from it with a test light. Not cheap, about 250.00 garage discount. So make sure that it is bad before replacing it. I had a friend at a Ford dealer check the trouble code. If its not the module then check the steering colum unit. Sometimes they go bad. Especially if you have an intermitent problem with the horn not working while making turns.

The air bag circuit has its own battery back up should the main power get disconnected during an accident so the airbag can still deploy. Unhooking the battery terminal will not deactivate the airbag circuit and it can still deploy so be very careful when dealing with it. And don't think because you pulled the battery cable off that its all safe. The battery for the airbag is located under the dash along with the control module, I know this because my airbag circuit is screwed as well. It beeps at me sometimes, or the dash light flashes lol I haven't had time to look at it. But the code it flashes is something like a rear impact sensor fault or something. To my understanding the battery is in a black box and you can or have to unplug it, as well as the main battery to cut all power to the airbag. Hope this helps.
