exhaust popping

RE: exhaust popping
dont think its the coil, replaced it when i replaced the fuel filter and plugs a couple months ago. i cant tell if it is backfiring from the exhaust or the intake though because it only does it under load, not just revving it up. its not very loud though, and sounds somewhat hollow, not like when you hear an old beater backfire and it sounds like a gunshot. not sure if that tells you anything about where its coming from.

RE: exhaust popping
when you rev at idle will it do it?check your timeing and harmonic balancer if those are ok you may have a rounded cam lobe and i dont know of a way to check that but its an excuse to upgrade. let me know once you figure it out, i'm curious

RE: exhaust popping
well, the past couple of days it doesnt seem to be doing it nearly as bad, but then again our eather has been in the 70's as opposed to the 30's-40's last week. so it mainly does it when the car is cold, i dont know if that will help out the diagnosis any. but ill def check out the intake really well when i get some light tomorrow.

RE: exhaust popping
Don't worry about the intake being cracked that isnt going to make your exhaust pop. That would give you a vacuum leak and cause the car to run like crap all the time, no its not a cam lobe problem either. It's probably not02 sensors either because they would cause the check engine light to come on.Make sure your mass air flow sensor is clean and check your IAC or idle air control its a little black thing on the side of your throttle body, there's two small bolts that hold it in with a little gasket. Pull it off and clean it with some carb cleaner, use some RTV sealant and put it back on, this should solve the problem.
