Blown Engine :(
Hello guys, i am so sad to find out when i last checked my dip stick i saw a small hair-like piece of metal attached to my dip stick. It looked like a piece of hair about 1" long. It has been 1,500 since i last changed my oil and it was clear. The car is not supercharged. It is a 2005 GT, anyone have any suggestions where i should start looking first?

Not sure, i was thinking of checking my bearings myself, i just have never heard of shavings that looked like that. I was hoping that someone who was familiar with those types of shavings to lead me in the right direction.

23,000 miles, dont race it. I do drive aggresivly sometimes, i guess thats why i wanted a mustang. Before i bought the car i was told that it ran with very very low oil for aprox 2 min, but was told by a mechanic that the bearings were fine and that the engine checks out ok. Even have a carbon dye test done (did it again recently upon finding the shaving) and both passed.
Oh, and i forgot, the engine sounds strong and has no unusual noises. It drives strong, responsive and does not overheat. It seems like nothing is wrong with it, i just dont know what to do about those damn shavings.

Was the metal magnetic?
How many miles on the car?
If there's not many miles on the car it could be just something left over from the break-in miles. There's all kinds of stuff that comes out in the first few oil changes.
I would go ahead and drive the car until the next oil change and drain the oil through a paint strainer. This will catch any metal your engine might be making and allow you to determine what it is.
A filter cutter will also be a big help in finding metal in the oil before the engine eats itself.

I wouldn't worry about that at this time though. When I bought my 04 GT (new) I changed the oil at 500 mi. and found a lot of metal in the oil. This diminished and quit completely after the 5000 mi. oil change.
If you want to be able to track the metal content of the engine you can send oil samples off to http://www.blackstone-labs.com/and they can give you detailed reports of the amount of contaminants coming out of your engine. One report is of little use unless there is a big problem, but being able to spot a trend of destruction can save you in the long run.
