Default Help with C Clip!

im working on my rearend (8.8) right now And i am lost. I am at the point of removing the C CLIPS off the axle. but the problem is i can only push the axles inward only so far. When i go to try and remove the c clip there just isnt enough room. The C Clip is thicker than the space created by pushing the axle in. If anyone can help me id appreciate it.

When i was changing out to cobra brakes on my I had to hit the axle in with a sledge. Not to had but to knock off some of the crude that keeps the axle from going in enought.
