Default drag tires

I just got back from Fomoso Dragway.
I have a Calif. smog legal5.0 90 LX with 5 spd. (with a good shifter)& 3.73 gears. Most of the common bolt-ons - TB, mass air, shorties, good exhaust, ud pulleys, intake manifold with spacer. I'm running 245/45/17's with 32 pounds in the rear.
I am building the car to mainly run on road courses, but still want to go out with friends and drag sometimes.
I have not been on a drag track since 1959, so part of my problem is me.
My tires are hard street tires and will not hook with any RPM. 2000 = smoke.
My bestet = 14.54, my 60 foot times are all (3 passes) 2.18 to 2.25 and my speed varied from 97+ to 98+.

I want to buy a pair of street radials just for the drag weekends, but don't really know what to look for.
I have rear disk brakes off an '88 Linclon MK VII. They are a little over 11" dia. I know a 16" wheel will fit ,but will a 15"? Do I care?
I assume that for a near stock car, most of the tires made will probably be comprable. Please tell my what I need to know.
Got launch tricks? I'm going back in the AM.

yep, Mickey's 275/40/17's work very well. If it is a short trip to the track or if you're going to put them on at the track these are great tires, they hook well. I wouoldn't use them as daily drivers because they are so soft you'll wear them out in no time. M&H also makes a couple of tires in 17's, this is what I'm going to try this year since they have some profiles that are different than the Mickey's. Nitto makes some drag radials as well. I have not run these but have heard they are a great street tire for traction but traction at the strip isn't as good as the Mickey's or M&H's. If I were you, I'd get a couople of 17x9's or 17x10's in the same styl of rim you have now and try one of the above.

Good luck.

what about running a 16" or even a 15" rim if it will clear the rotors?
there would be more side wall to flex if that is a factor.
in the meantime, i am going back out today and will try launching around 1200 or slipping the cultch a bit.
any thoughta on any of the above?

With the lincoln brakes in the rear I'm sure 16's will work but not sure about 15's. If I had to guess I'd say 15's would be ok. With radials, sidewall flex isn't going to happen as much as with a bias tire so that isn't going to as big of a deal. Sidewall height will make a little difference in a radial but not as much as with bias.

How did it go at the track? Have you tried to lower the air pressure a little to help?

I would pose much the same question. I went to the track yesterday, I could not hook up in first or second at all. I could only go half throttle or I would have been into the wall Im sure. I still managed 3 times just under 14. I have 18x9 cobra-r's. Is there a good tire for this that anyone has either used, or would suggest. I dont really know much about tires, so anything would be helpful.

18's are rough. I think Mickey Thompsonmight have started making an 18" drag radial but I can't seem to find it anywhere. Nitto makes several sizes of 18" drag radials.

good luck
