Default Why Cold Air Intake?

Hello, i have a very dum question i need to ask. I do understand how by replacing your rubber tube induction, you can gain 10hp by adding a stainless steel one.

I understand that cold air compresses better, therefore its better.

But why and how does it help?

when cold air gets heated it fills more space, when hot air gets heated it fills less than teh cold air. now put that in a cylinder chamber and ignite it which will have more pressure to fill the cylinder faster? the cold air willcause it fills more space.

No understand that part. I am jsut saying how does stainless steel vs rubber change that?

I dont see how it makes the air 'cold'

its not the stainless steel that makes the air colder, its where your air is pulled from. your stock intake pulls air from the bottom of the engine compartment and most cold air kits pull air from the fenderwell, which is much cooler air.

The stock intake actually sucks air from the fender, aftermarket ones just look nicer. Chances are you won't notice a difference in performance between the two. Cold air is more dense thus contains more oxygen per cubic inch than warmer air.

I'ts been said that you can get just as much gain from trimming your silencer and removing the screen from the MAF.
This does lean the mixture somewhat so listen for detonation after you do this.

I would keep your screen in place. My car ran like crap after I took mine out.

5.0s are much different from 4.6s so maybe that's why you had issues, I took mine out many years ago with no noticable difference.

Like mentioned it's been dyno proven that by removing the air silencer you do pick up HP, many people say to remove the silencer and install a K&N but I wanted to get rid of my ugly intake pieces.

colder air fills less space.

removing the screen will give you no noticable power. trim or remove the boot, and put a K+N in and you have the same measely gains as a 200$ intake.

the screen is supposed to 'straiten' the air out to give your MAF a more accurate reading of the air comming through. removing it may cause your idle to be a little jumpy thats about it. no power increase what so ever.
