ok i started the car and it fired up and idled normal.

i have a 2 gauge cable running from the alternator to the battery.
solenoid + cable running to the battery.

battery ground is broken by the switch, car is still running. WTF!!!????

it should have CUT all power to the car since the alternator is charging directly to the battery through its own cable. whats going on....

dam, its ok lol...

one more thing that may help pinpoint the problem.

when i flick the switch, although the car still runs, i notice that the voltage drops because i think the alternator is cut off from the system and the car is only running off the batt. but how can it still be running off the battery if i broke the negative still? nothing should be working!!

also, when the car is off and the key is in, if i flick the switch the lights and all will turn off. its really weird, i dont know why it wont shut off the car.

car is the ground. just like when you jump a car you dont need the neg to jump it on the one car. your ground is still tied in. thats why a car will run for a short time if you pull out the battery. it lives off the alt for a short time. i seen it a few years back in MMFF i think they used a remote solonid in the trunk and link hte switch to that. see you want to kill power to the starter. the article if im correct when you kill the switch it kills the motor but you still get your accessories. i would have to say start looking back 2 years for that aritcle.

why do i want to kill power to the starter motor? its not involved in keeping the engine running.

i just tried wiring the switch inline the positive cables and when i turned it, the car kept running. its really weird, everything i try doesnt work!

i noticed something though, a voltage drop when i turned the switch back to the on position. and charge went up when i turned the switch to the off position, wtf is going on...

your alt is working harder with no hold cell [ie a battery] thats one way to over work your alt and kill it prematurely. do a search for the article on it. it was back in the back of the magizine. go to the site and do a search close to 2 years ago. i know they did it or was it fast fords and 5.0s.. but one of them had it. i got the mag but im not looking ofr it at this time of night.

you need to somehow kill the power to the ignition. so think about what is all linked to the ignition circuit.. starter, battery and etc.. no think of what needs to be killd
