valve cover leaking
i just got my oil changed and switched to full synthetic, could that be why my gas mileage is bad? ive heard tht the first time you switch it cleans everything out faster than normal, not sure though. but anyways when they gave me back my car after work, they said i had a leaking valve cover...how could i check this to see if its true, i already looked under there and it did look like oil was leaking out...which maybe could affect my gas mileage too idk, any help would be good, and on how to fix it..thanks
Valve cover gaskets are relatively cheap. I usually do both at the same time if the car is my daily driver. It depends also on how much crap is in the way of pulling the valve cover off. As for gas mileage, I've never experienced loss of mpg's from an oil change. In fact, I've never even heard of that. I recommend looking at changes you've made in fuel quality, driving habits, etc. Good choice on the synthetic too. The only thing you have to make sure of is that if you take your stang to a service shop for oil changes regularly, you can never go back to non synthetic again. I would watch the mechanic closely. There's an old expression, Never get your tires mounted on a Friday afternoon. Anyone who works a blue collar job knows what that means. lol
