EGR Valve
I have a 2001 Mustang with unfortunately a V6 for a daily driver. I had a severe clattering issue on a small road trip this weekend, and when I arrived back into town my Service Engine Soon light aluminated. I originally thought the clattering was from a lack of octane, seeing that is usually the solution for clattering. Today I decided to go ahead and make use of Autozone's free computer read-out, and it said the EGR valve needs to be replaced. I have heard that Ford is having some issues with the 3.8 V6 and EGR valves, and I was wondering if anyone knew of these problems. The problems exist in the design and attachement to the intake. I also heard after Ford fixes this EGR problem on your Mustang that power loss is experienced. Does anyone know about this situation? Thanks for your help!
Yeah for some reason the guy at Autozone would not give me the actual code, but just looked it up and said that is what it is after he hooked the computer up. I do not know about you, but I really do not give much trust into Autozone, not complaining about the people or company, they are just in the business to sell parts. I have the equipment to read codes at home, but unfortunately I am off at college right now and the only thing I have right now is my travel set of tools. So I am just going to hit the dealership up tomorrow with it. The car has 51,000 miles on it and I purchased bumper to bumper warranty 4 years/80,000 miles, which ever comes first. I have had terrible luck with this car since I got it, and I do not drive it hard or beat on it. I have had the transmission rebuilt (it is a 5 speed with a sorry T5), a new power steering pump, oil pressure censor, found out the front breaks - were not placed on the car correctly at the factory and had to have everything from pads to calipers put on all new by the dealership, my rear spoiler has broke away from the trunk on the right rear side, both front headlights started to take on moisture, driver's side glass came off the track and messed up some internal parts which all had to be replaced, the shifter (the detent springs which allows the stick to stay in the middle, if the neutral position) broke, the rearend starting leaking very bad around the inspection cover, and I knew something else would go wrong with it. I have a 1982 Chevrolet pickup which is my hobby and toy and have had not any kind of problems like this. I have rebuilt this truck, everything new, but I got this car for just an everday commuter, which I have concluded might have been a mistake. Thanks for the replies and I will keep you posted. I just knew something else was going to go out on it.
