Every time i drive my 01 gt when its cold i get this tapping noise almost like a metal vibration or like something is loose when i hit about 2500-3000 rpm and from there it get louder the higher i rev any ideas on what the hell it could be. Ive put it up on a lift at my work and went all though it with a rubber hammer hitting the underneath hopin to hear it but it only happens when i drive it. like i said it sounds like something is loose and vibrating like a bracket or a clamp......im completely stumped

Checked all of these put the car up on a lift and took a rubber hammer and started at the front of the car and worked my way back but still nothing..it only does it when im driving. I tried driving it while it was on the lift and it didnt make a sound either.

 

have you checked for an exhaust leak. exhaust leaks sound metal

 

are you sure that the engine is not pinging or detonating?? since it only seems to happening under a load, this is what I guess it is. or you running low octane gas with the timing set too high???

 

sounds like the same problem i have, you prolly have a blown header gasket, I dont hear it until i give it gas and it gets louder as i hit higher revolutions.

 

well i guess ill find out this weekend im installing my bbk lt ceramic headers and my h-pipe. If it does it after that who knows what it is.....ill have to keep checking. Although i dont think its that cause ive put it on a lift at my work and went throught the gears in the air and it didnt make a sound...?
