MAF measures how much air is flowing into the engine

A bigger MAF compensates the computer to still run right with bigger injectors.

Mass air flow measures the amount of air so that the computer can put the amount of fuel that is needed.

Default RE: what the hell does a MAF do?

to put it a bit more technically
what is the purpose of the MAF
The MAF (Mass Air Flow meter) measures/tracks/meters the amount of airentering the engine and sends that information to the ECM (engine control module) so that the ECM will send the right message to the injectors so that they will pulse (inject) the proper amount of fuel into the cylinder to mix with the air and efficiently combust

whats the point to having a bigger one?
the point of having a bigger one is that if you can move more air, sending a 'larger' message to the ECM for more fuel from the injectors, you make more power

what do they mean when they say it meter gets peged?
when it pegs, basically it means that the injectors cannot send any more fuel than the MAF calls for.

Hope this helps.

A bigger MAF will flow more air, but putting one on a stock engine is pretty useless because the stock MAF flows plenty of air. A bigger MAF is only needed after heavy mods like a supercharger or turbo etc.

Only if you're also upping your boost and even then your injectors and fuel pump might be fine, it depends on how much boost you're adding.
