Need help with Black Magic
Hello all. I am new here and to Ford products.
I need to know if they made a 1983 Black Magic Capri with a V8? I know they made them with V6 & 4 banger with or without turbos. But I cant find any info if they made V8 Magics.
I know that it is looking like it cause of the interior, but that could have been swapped. The 8th digit is a "F" which I think is saying a RS. I just wanna make sure before I get "true people" upset.
I bought this car with the intentions of a 1/4 mile monster but I dont wanna strip and drag a rare car. If its a Magic I will just resell it and buy a plain Fox chassis. I got lucky and found this super solid Capri in a dry storage garage that has been sitting since 1995.
Thanks in advance with any help.

RE: Need help with Black Magic
1981-1983 Black Magic - Black cars with gold striping, gold TRX wheels and a gold cat's head on each side of the "nose piece" just ahead of the front fender. The interior received special black seats with gold inserts. The 1983 model is extremely rare and the only Black Magic to receive the compound rear window.

Ya that little bit is all I was able to find also.
I cant find anything on these cars.
I am guessing that meens they arent that popular or a high demand car. So I guess i should just use it for a drag car built up.
Thanks

RE: Need help with Black Magic
From what i found it did have a V8 in some rare models.
Underhood, the 1983 Mercury Capris saw some repositioning of certain components for easier owner servicing. The 5.0L dumped its two-barrel carb for a four-barrel unit, upping horsepower to 175 -- things were starting to get "hairy." One change that proved unpopular was the repositioning of the horn control to a stalk adjacent to the turn signal lever, causing people to sometimes blow the horn by mistake.
Two-tones were repeated for the 1983 Mercury Capri, but reverted to the 1981 style of using silver metallic as a main color. The black accent color was deleted, leaving charcoal grey, burgundy, or dark blue to pair up with the silver. The Crimson Cat's sport seats were offered on all 1983 Mercury Capris except the base model. At $196, they came in black, red, or dark blue and proved popular. Despite the restyling, exterior specs remained about the same, though curb weight increased about 100 pounds to 2,800.
Under the hood, the small 4.2 V-8 was dropped, and with it the possibility of buying a V-8 with automatic -- the four-speed stick was mandatory with the 5.0L. The largest engine with automatic was the 3.8-liter two-barrel V-6. Near the end of the 1983 model run, Mercury brought back the Mercury Capri Turbo RS, of which only 381 were made. Prices rose about $500 for 1983, but to Mercury's dismay sales continued their downward spiral to just 25,376 units
