Default How often do you check your oil?

Is it really necessary to do this often? What if you have a newer Mustang (05+) and it isn't leaking or burning oil?

You're supposed to everytime you get gas, most people don't. I check mine about once a weekand it isn't burning or leaking oil but I would like to know as soon as at did.

Most people check when the little oil idiot light comes on. HAHA! I would say every week or two, but for us more lazy people probably every month or so.[sm=smiley20.gif] I would check more often if you have a fox. Would not worry about it as much in a new mustang IMO.

My truck used to leak oil like a madman so I got into the habit of checking that every day. These days it barely burns/leaks so I do it once a week. The Cobra I don't drive too often so I check it at least once a month, but it's been fine so far.

I never check my oil.

Seriously. Once you familiarize yourself with your car you will soon know.

Had a worn out 88 Mustang before. I burned oil at the rate of 1Litre PER 1000kms.
An extreme example but I checked and added every 2nd fuel fill up.

All 3 of my present vehicles. 87 Ram, 94 LHS and my 93 Mustang. I change the oil every 5000kms. After 5000km the oil stick is above ADD. Once in a while I'll pull the stick before I dump the oil at it's change interval but never on a regular basis.

Engines that are kind on oil consumption do not suddenly start using oil. This takes years.
If you required to add oil at 3000kms. Good chance, after you drive another 3000kms it's ready for another litre.

Extreme example? My truck used to leak a quart a day until I fixed the rear main and valve cover gasket. That sure was embarrasing to drive with it leaking all over the manifold. James Bond smokescreen style! [8D]
