Blown Spark Plug??
Hey All,
Not a fun ride home from work tonight. Got a 99 Gt with 122,000 miles and whamo, loud ticking noise, smelling gas through the air vent, $220 tow ride home to find the spark plug came right out of the head. Any ideas on a good fix for this? If the best way is a head replacement then I will do it but if something else works just as well for not as much $$$ then I'm open. Love this car and have no intentions of getting rid of it. By the way, have replaced the transmission and rear end. Glad I have atruck and motorcycle toofor the longdrive to work. Looking for advice. Let me know if you need more info.
Thanks,
Christina

Welcome to the world of 2V Mustangs(well, some of them). Try posting in the Modular section, it's not an uncommon problem and they can tell you how to best go about fixing it.
You can use a "Time Sert" insert kit (expensive), or a Helicoil kit, (cheaper). You should check the tightness on the plugs on a 4.6L periodically. ALWAYS use a tourque wrench set to 11-13 ft lbs when checking/changing the plugs. There are only about 4-6 threads holding the plugs in the heads (another brilliant idea from Ford, right up there with the plastic intake manifold)[&:]
