Default Brake Problems

Okay, so I'm on the final stretch of this 8.8 swap, I'm just stuck on the brakes. Right now my V6 caliper (since I didn't get calipers with the rear end) won't fit over the brake pads and the rotor because this rotor is thicker. This rear end was out of a 2004 Mach 1, so I'm pretty sure what I have is the 11.65" Slotted rotor, but when I go to Autozone, the pads they give me are just as thick and still won't fit over the pads and rotor. Anyone know what I need to do? I'm stuck!

First, I would make sure I compress the caliper as far as it will go (pretty much a given), set the pads in place and then take an actual measurement of the space left over. After that, take a micrometer and measure the rotor (thickness). If it is a real big difference between the first and second number, then most likely you need to convert it to the factory brakes for that axle. If the brake lines are the same, just connect them to the new calipers, if not then size them up or down to fit. That's what I would do. I would also look into how that affects your ABS if so equipped though. Brakes can get to be a pain in the @ss real quick. Good luck.

I agree with mustangman. You can compress the caliper until it is flush. I ususally use a large pair of pliers to squeeze it (calipercylinder)until it is flat. It should fit once you get it completely compressed. This is pretty normal when you put on brand new pads.
